Description
Low power factor quietly adds money to every industrial electricity bill. On kVAh billing you pay for extra units; on kWh billing you pay a power factor penalty; and in both cases your kVA demand charge goes up. This free Excel tool shows you exactly how much – in rupees – so you can decide whether power factor correction is worth it.
What the analyzer does
- Calculates your power factor for each month from kWh and kVAh (or kWh and kVARh) on your bill
- Works for both kVAh billing (used by MSEDCL and many other utilities for HT consumers) and kWh billing with a PF penalty
- Lets you enter your own utility’s penalty slabs, because the rules differ by state and tariff category
- Shows the extra demand charge you pay because of low power factor
- Totals your yearly avoidable cost and counts the months you fell below 0.95 PF
- Works out the capacitor kVAR needed and suggests an APFC panel rating
- Calculates payback once you enter a panel quotation
- Draws a monthly power factor trend chart and an avoidable-cost chart

How to use it
- Choose how your utility bills you in the Settings tab.
- Type 12 months of bill figures into the yellow cells.
- Open the Summary tab to see your yearly avoidable cost and the recommended APFC rating.
Sample figures are already filled in so you can see how it works before entering your own. The file opens in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.

Is it really free?
Yes. You only enter your name, company and contact details at checkout so we can send you the download link.
Will it work for my state?
Yes. Penalty rules vary across India, so the Settings tab lets you enter the slabs from your own tariff order or bill.
Do I need my electricity bill?
Yes – you need kWh, kVAh (or kVARh), maximum demand and the energy and demand rates printed on your bills.
Is the APFC rating final?
It is a budgeting estimate. The final rating, steps and any detuned reactors should be confirmed by a site survey.
