Job Description

Job Summary:
The Associate Fashion Designer role is responsible for creating on-trend, stylish, and wearable collections that embody the brand’s signature look: timeless, luxurious, and trendy. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are seamlessly developed and delivered on time. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, driven individual looking to make an impact in the world of e-commerce fashion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Trend Forecast & Research: Keep a pulse on dynamic trends and apply them in a way that is in line with JLUXLABEL’s brand identity. Translate these insights into innovative & market-ready designs that resonate with our e-commerce audience.
  • Product Development & Execution: Assist with the coordination of design development including digital/hand sketches, technical flat sketches, color/print illustrations and tech pack development from initial concept to finished product. Ensure a timely execution of all design tasks are in alignment with the development calendar.
  • Communication & Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with vendors/suppliers, factories, and internal teams to ensure the quality of each design is executed appropriately.
  • Fabric & Trim Sourcing/Selection: Research & support the selection of fabrics, closures, trims, and finishes that align with the brand’s vision, ensuring the design is not only aesthetically appealing but also functional and commercially viable.
  • E-Commerce Alignment: Create designs with a focus on e-commerce appeal considering how each garment will look online, photography potential, and overall functionality.
  • Design Innovation: Stay ahead of design trends by consistently introducing fresh new ideas or concepts, new sewing techniques, and innovative approaches (while paying special attention to seasonality) that cater to the fast-paced e-commerce market.
  • Brand Consistency: Ensure that every design aligns with the JLUXLABEL aesthetic of luxury, combining modern elegance with practicality, remaining mindful of affordability.
  • Occasionally Review Samples & Attend Fittings: Review, spec, and organize incoming samples for fittings, and provide clear, actionable feedback to enhance fit and construction. Conduct live model fittings, documenting detailed fit notes to guide revisions.
  • Occasionally Manage Garment Technical Requirements: Oversee all technical aspects of garment development, including specifications, pattern making, and construction details, ensuring precision and quality at every stage of the process.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in fashion design, with a strong focus on designing for e-commerce or a fashion brand with a digital presence.
  • A degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the fashion industry.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating original design, apparel flats/sketches, fabric/trim sourcing, and finished product realized in a small or large scale production.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator (technical flats), Photoshop, and MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of CAD software & PLM systems is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of the e-commerce landscape, with an understanding of how fashion designs translate to online visuals, product listings, and customer experience.
  • Proven ability to identify and apply market trends to designs while keeping the brand’s aesthetic and customer in mind.
  • A solid understanding of garment construction, fit, and fabric selection. Ability to ensure designs are not only stylish but also well-made and commercially viable.
  • Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines, all while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Strong sense of style, color, and design with a keen eye for detail. A passion for creating designs that resonate with customers and stand out in the digital marketplace.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to adapt designs quickly based on feedback or production constraints.
The ideal candidate is a freelance Associate Fashion Designer with 2+ years of experience supporting women’s apparel design in a fast-paced, e-commerce-driven environment. This individual is highly organized, trend-aware, and detail-oriented, with strong technical skills in sketches, flats, and tech pack development. They are comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams, vendors, and factories, and can manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines. The successful candidate has a strong eye for brand consistency, understands how design translates to online merchandising, and thrives in an in-office, hands-on setting.
